Breast Augmentation Procedure

The Procedure

• The breast augmentation procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.
• A small incision is typically made under the breast or around the nipple and a saline or silicone implant is inserted under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle.

Recuperation and Healing

• Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.
• Light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Aerobic activities can be started in about 4-6 weeks as advised by Dr. Alexander.

You will be required to remain fairly sedentary and rest for about a week following the procedure. After that, you should be able to start resuming light activities again as well as returning to work or school. Dr. Alexander will require that you do not resume any aerobic or strenuous physical activities for at least four to six weeks.

Other Options

• An additional procedure that would enhance the result is a Mastopexy (breast lift) -- if the breasts are saggy in addition to being small.
