Las Vegas Breast Implant Surgery

When considering breast augmentation ("augmentation mammaplasty"), patients will have various breast implant options to choose from. They will need to consider:

• Type of breast implant: Saline or Silicone Gel
• Placement of breast implant: Under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and underlying muscle
• Incision location: Under the breast crease or around the nipple

Right now, there are only two FDA approved filler materials for breast implants in the US. These fillers are:

• Saline
  • Saline implants will be used during your initial breast augmentation surgery. They vary in shell surface, volume, shell thickness, profile, and shape. Most implants are filled at the time of surgery. There are implants available that come pre-filled by the manufacturer, but they are not currently approved by the FDA.
• Silicone gel
  • Silicone gel implants are usually used only during a breast implant exchange surgery to replace old silicone implants. Silicone implants have three layers of shell surrounding the implant, and while this reduces the amount of gel leakage, it does make the shell a bit harder, due to the thickness. Silicone implants come pre-filled.

Breast implant exchange can be done in one or two steps, depending on the individual's specific needs. Breast implant exchange is a plastic surgery procedure that enables Dr. Alexander to remove previously placed prostheses (implants) for medical reasons, and then replacing them with new implants. This surgery may also entail the removal of scar tissue and residual silicone.
This surgery is typically performed through the old incision, ensuring no new scars. If only the implants are being replaced, then the procedure can be done under local anesthesia and sedation; however if scar tissue is also being removed, then general anesthesia may be required.
